Country Feeds was started in 1991 when Doug & Sharon Classen bought a little feed mill in the middle of Montezuma, KS. They sold bagged feed and delivered bulk feed and built custom rations for the needs of the customers in Southwest Kansas.
Doug Classen also started C & C Trailer Sales in 1990 and it was located N of Montezuma, KS. Country Feeds bought out the other partner in C & C Trailer Sales and moved the trailer business under the Country Feeds name in 2000.
In 1994, Country Feeds made the decision to begin selling and servicing the Polaris line of ATV’s. That part of the business has grown to be one of the largest Polaris® Dealers in the state of Kansas.
In 1995, Country Feeds took on the Valley product line of center pivot irrigation systems. This includes new sales, service, and parts for existing irrigation systems.
By 1998, Country Feeds had outgrown their current location and moved from the feed mill location across the highway to a different facility that was several times larger.
As business continued to grow, Country Feeds added more employees and purchased more warehouse space around their location on the north side of Highway 56.
By 2012, Country Feeds had grown to the point that the decision was made to start planning for a new facility. After many months of drawing, re-drawing, discussing and talking, the decision was made to go ahead with a new facility. Ground was purchased and dirt-work was started in the summer of 2013. The first load of cement was poured in October of 2013. The building was erected and closed in by January 2014. June 15, 2014, was the soft-opening date and June 25, 2014, was the Grand Opening of a new 33,000 sq-ft building ¾ mile W of Montezuma. With the new building came the need for more people to handle the increased business. Country Feeds currently employs 14 people. Doug and Sharon and their family continue to own and operate this business.
